My husband and I are taking a mini-vacation next week to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We’ll be staying on Harkers Island, near Beaufort, N.C.
Our accommodations are pretty rustic, so I’m not so sure about this whole trip. As far as I’m concerned, I’m roughing it when there’s no phone in the bathroom. This time I just hope there’s a bathroom.

One of the primary attractions in that area is an island called Shackleford Banks that is home to wild horses. According to Tour Beaufort, the free-roaming horses are descended from horses brought to the area about 400 years ago, and are one of the last isolated groups of wild horses surviving in the United States. How cool is that?
We also hope to see the lighthouse on Cape Lookout. I’ll charge up my camera battery and post photos while we’re there.
Beaufort also features the home of Blackbeard the pirate. They offer ghost tours at night. Um, I think I’ll be skipping that one.
